The jewel in the crown of LVMH launches a collaboration with a celebrated streetwear label. In an homage/journey to New York, that mixes street style and artistic panoramas with iconic names like Jean-Michel Basquiat
and Julian Schnabel, Keith Haring, Robert Mapplethorpe and Andy Warhol.
The music gets louder, a scene similar to the dance floor at Studio 54. Like a jam session, from the boxy speakers that surround a DJ booth with turn tables, revealed at the end of the show. Because this season, Kim Jones takes his menswear collection for Louis Vuitton across the pond. A new journey that has a clear aim, to travel through time in the Big Apple, from the 70’s to the 90’s.
“It’s uptown and downtown,” Kim Jones – the Artistic Director of the menswear collection for the house owned by LVMH - told MFF, “artists and musicians, friends and heroes”. Clearly referencing the art scene, above all the pop art movement and its protagonists: Jean-Michel Basquiat and his layered pieces, Julian Schnabel’s pyjamas, Keith Haring’s streetstyle, intriguing details from Robert Mapplethorpe. And the prophet of pop culture, Andy Warhol who – if he was around today – would probably love Supreme, the phenomenal streetwear brand who made a special appearance. Supreme & Louis Vuitton collaborate for the first time, bringing to life a capsule collection of clothes, accessories and jewellery, which will be launched at the same time as the Louis Vuitton FW17 collection. Mixing the pair’s graphic prints to create an eye-popping hybrid. A new variation of the Louis Vuitton monogram is moulded into the Supreme box logo. Japanese denim updated with a camouflage of iconic print. A mix of eye-catching accessories in a punchy red hue, like the pocket scarves tied to trousers that mixed with airplane collages on knits that were worn tied around waists and neatly paired with graphics inspired by 1930’s ad campaigns.
