LVMH has finally announced the eight young designers nominated for the final of the 2020 LVMH Prize, taking place in Paris June 5th 2020, at Fondation Louis Vuitton. The Jury of the LVMH Prize - which includes new guest judges Virgil Abloh, former Prize finalist, Robyn Rihanna Fenty and Stella McCartney - will select among those eight finalists the 2020 winner of the Prize as well as the winner of the Karl Lagerfeld Prize.
The eight finalists are AHLUWALIA by Priya Ahluwalia, CASABLANCA by Charaf Tajer, CHOPOVA LOWENA by Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, NICHOLAS DALEY by Nicholas Daley, PETER DO by Peter Do, SINDISO KHUMALO by Sindiso Khumalo, SUPRIYA LELE by Supriya Lele, TOMO KOIZUMI by Tomotoka Koizumi, and hail from all across the globe, London, New York, Cape Town and Tokyo.
"This year, once more, the semi-finalists impressed us with their creativity and their commitment to creating clothes that are respectful of the environment. It was very difficult to decide between them! Five of the finalists design womenswear and the three other finalists appropriate the staples of menswear," said Delphine Arnault, director and vice president of Louis Vuitton, in an official statement.
The winner will be receiving a €300,000 grant and a year's mentorship from a dedicated LVMH team. The Karl Lagerfeld prize, recently introduced to honour the late designer, will see an upcoming talent awarded a €150,000 (approx $170,700) grant and a one-year mentorship.
Lastly, 24S and MatchesFashion will welcome the finalists of the LVMH Prize on their respective platform to help them gain international exposure.
