Is Paul Surridge Exiting Roberto Cavalli?

Amidst rumors that Philipp Plein is interested in buying into Cavalli's fashion imperium, Paul Surridge is said to be now close to resigning from his role of creative director at Roberto Cavalli. The English-born designer joined the label in July 2017 after holding design positions with several brands including Burberry, Calvin Klein, and Jil Sander. According to WWD, a lack of investment in both the development of the brand's retail network and its marketing and communications department is the source of Surridge's frustration and possible departure.

CFDA names Tom Ford at its Helm and Reveals Nominees

Tom Ford is CFDA's new chairman and will succeed Diane von Furstenberg on June 1. This year's CFDA nominees for Womenswear Designer of the Year are Brandon Maxwell, Marc Jacobs, Kate Mulleavy and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte, Rosie Assoulin, and Sander Lak for Sies Marjan. The Menswear Designer of the Year nominees are Mike Amiri for Amiri, Virgil Abloh for Off-White, Kerby Jean-Raymond for Pyer Moss, Rick Owens, and Thom Browne for Thom Browne New York. The Emerging Designer of the Year nominees are Emily Adams Bode for Bode, Beth Bugdaycay for Foundrae, Heron Preston, Catherine Holstein for Khaite, and Sarah Staudinger and George Augusto for Staud. 

Sterling Ruby Announces Ready-to-Wear Collection

American artist Sterling Ruby announced the creation of S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. and launch of his debut collection in June, during the Pitti Uomo tradeshow in Florence. "I’ve always been interested in the behavioral power that comes with clothing," explains Sterling Ruby in an official statement. "For years I have been privately exploring garments as a medium, as something that impacts the way one can think, feel, and move. I couldn’t be more excited to finally put my clothing out into the world.” Ruby's new project comprises womenswear, menswear, and accessories inspired by his artworks which include soft sculptures, quilts, backdrops, and garments.

Glossier's Emily Weiss is Hitting Another Milestone

Earlier this week, Glossier hit "unicorn" status – a term for startups valued at $1 billion or more – reaching a valuation of $1.2 billion. The brand founded and run by blogger-turned-beauty-mogul Emily Weiss has secured $100 million in Series D funding, according to company database Crunchbase, topping New York's recent funding headlines. Glossier Inc is a four-year-old startup which has more than 150 employees across three countries and sells skincare, makeup, body, and fragrance products in the United States, Canada, Sweden, and the United Kingdom directly through www.glossier.com and in its New York City showroom.

Rei Kawakubo to Receive 2019 Isamu Noguchi Award

Rei Kawakubo is the recipient of the 2019 Isamu Noguchi award, which will be presented at the museum’s annual benefit on May 2nd in New York. The award is traditionally given to to individuals who share Isamu Noguchi’s spirit of innovation, global consciousness, and commitment to East/West cultural exchange. In the past Kawakubo received the Fashion Group International Award in 1986 and the Excellence in Design Award from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 2000. In 1993 she was named a Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government. 

Get Your Hands on Gosha Rubchinskiy’s New Brand

GR-Uniforma, Gosha Rubchinskiy’s new project, has just launched on March 16th and includes a denim capsule designed in collaboration with Diesel. Rubchinskiy’s debut collection named GRUPPA will be sold in all Dover Street Market boutiques located in the United States and the United Kingdom, China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea, as well as in Comme des Garçons stores and selling points in France, Germany, and Japan, and at KM20 in Russia and I.T Ice House in Hong Kong. 

#WeLove: Dior's New Men's Bag Line

Kim Jones has delved into Christian Dior's heritage, and introduces a new men's bag line for Dior Homme, the Perforated Cannage Line. The line features men's bags in perforated leather including a weekend bag and a shopper, both available in black and a natural tan color. Each bag comes with a canvas pouch that is printed with Dior's emblematic bee reimagined by American artist KAWS. It has been designed to hold and protect items such as laptops or books.
